This shit ends now

To all who were ever curious about what life is like an English Major, here is the topic of the last paper I will ever write as an undergraduate student of Brock University’s English Language and Literature (Honors) program.  2000 words, 2 primary sites of analysis.

It goes like this:

I intend to demonstrate how the science of the Modernist period (roughly 1880-1940 through Europe and some parts of North America), more specifically the theories of pioneer psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, are echoed in the poetic works of Modernist writers.  I use as a site for this analysis the epic Modern poem “The Wasteland’ by T.S. Eliot.  I will examine how Freud’s theories of meaning construction and its locus within the human psyche (rather than an overarching Meaning, to be agreed upon by all) are made manifest within Eliot’s work, and how Freud’s assertion of “twisted” logic that has escaped the censors of the unconcious can just as easily be responsible for poetry as it can be mental breakdown.

This is not a thinly-veiled dig at poets whatsoever.  No sirree, Bob.

I’m doing this as I have The Rolling Stones on the record player behind me.  Marc will hate me for saying this, but the Stones sound awesome on vinyl.  Better, even, than the Beatles.  Not as good as T.Rex though.  Not by a long shot.
