Ice man in Detroit, and The First Aid Kit

Somebody found a body frozen in a block of ice in a Detroit warehouse, and it went unnoticed for weeks

It looks like a hoax. I don’t know detnews.com, but if they’re a tabloid paper like the New York Post then it wouldn’t surprise me if this photo isn’t real.  But if it is, what a sweet grab.

You can read the full story to find out what happened, but here’s the gist: someone, probably a homeless guy, was found completely encased in ice with only his feet visible. The police treated it casually when they found out about it, but the body had already been found days earlier by trespassers. They needed a jackhammer to get it out.

also…

The First Aid Kit is a good band from Halifax

I don’t think I’ve posted anything on good local bands, but there are definitely a few around here.  More than a few probably, but I haven’t had much time to get out and see bands that I’m not familiar with (I’m going to claim workload and a serious cash drought last term as liabilities here). I know it’s going to be one of those things I regret once I leave the province, so I’m doing my best to catch what shows I can, while I can.

These guys are The First Aid Kit. Their EP release party is on Saturday, but I’ve already committed to seeing the Jimmy Swift Band at the Marquee for the purposes of story writing.  It’s a shame, because I would really like to see TFAK play at the Seahorse the same night.

I heard about them through the Marquee interviews that I’m doing: Darryl Smith (the guitarist/vocals for TFAK) is also one half of the Marquee’s Retro Night duo.  I met Darryl yesterday for an interview.

Next best thing is the free download of their Rocket Summer EP.  Give it a spin.  “Splitting Images” is recommended.

finally…

I’m in a foul mood today

My interview this morning was cancelled at the last minute. A reschedule for tomorrow, so it’s not the end of the world. But I feel like I’m losing my threads on this thing again. A lot of the subjects in my story have very busy lives right now, so it’s tough nailing people down.

Agh. This too shall pass.
