A whole bowlful of wants

I think that would make an excellent album title, by the way.

If you ever have a free afternoon and feel like tearing your hair out and weeping uncontrolably, spin by any of these concert design websites and make a wishlist of posters that you could never possibly afford. Not all at once, anyway.

  • Gigposters.com: Simultaneously the best and most frustrating– it has an incredible collection of well-chosen posters, almost none of which you will ever get your grubby hands on unless you contact the designer themselves. Go to Classifieds for their small collection of posters up for limited sale.
  • Dan Stiles: He doesn’t change his inventory very often, but it’s fun to scroll through and some of the designs (like this New Pornographers poster) have a great sense of humour.
  • GigArt.com: Some hits and misses, but the browse-by-year setup is pretty neat. I’m particularly fond of this green Foo Fighters.
  • Todd Slater: Big points lost for crappy clickability on the site, because I really hate websites that don’t have a Next Page button at the BOTTOM of the page.  Also, it’s kind of tedious to sift through the classic rock posters. I’ve seen enough of that douchepickle Jim Morrison to last me my lifetime. But he has done some excellent stuff, like classic Black Keys and Wolfmother.
  • CrashAmerica.com: Shitty thumbnails, but AWESOME everything else (and trust me, after a few weeks of working on one long story when nobody returns my calls, I know a thing or two about shitty thumbnails. Hiyo!). See SXSW in Buffalo, Belle & Sebastien, and The National for my friends.

About Upper Lip

It's mostly a collection of sweet links and copious amounts of talk talk talk. I like it more and more every day. And yes, even the ugly blue/green color scheme is not without a certain charm.
